Mavs Look To Host Wichita State In Final Non-Conference Match Of Regular Season

ARLINGTON– After four match cancellations, the UT Arlington men's tennis team (6-6) is set to take on the Wichita State Shockers in a Thursday match at the UTA Tennis Center at 1 p.m.

In the Mavericks' most recent win, they took down ranked opponent New Jersey Institute of Technology 4-3 at the UTA Tennis Center. NJIT was ranked No. 57 in the nation and is now No. 67.

WAC Singles Player of the Week Joan Torres Espinosa has remained steady on Court 1 as he continued his undefeated streak against NJIT. The 6-4, 6-2 win put him at 7-0 in the spring and extended his winning streak to ten matches. He sits at 13-2 overall.

Freshmen Meethre Barot and Andres Medus were also key in the victory over the Highlanders, both claiming strong victories on Courts 3 and 4. In a three-set thriller, Barot took down his opponent 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 while Medus dominated 6-1, 6-0. Both players hold 6-4 records on the season.

Espinosa has also been impressive in doubles play with partner Dante Teramo. The Court 1 duo hold a 9-5 overall record and a 5-3 spring record, with victories over Texas Tech and No. 69 Utah State.
