ARLINGTON, Texas - After a remarkable performance on the mound last week, UT Arlington's
Jessica Adams has been named the Western Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
This marks the second week in a row that a UTA Softball student-athlete has earned weekly honors as
Camille Corona was named WAC Softball Player of the Week one week ago.
Arguably, Adams recorded the best performance in her career with a perfect game against the Cardinals of Incarnate Word on Sunday, Mar. 3 which concluded UTA's four-day Boerner Invitational. The junior eclipsed the second perfect game in program lore - first to ever do it in a full seven-inning contest - and eighth no-hitter. The only other perfect game belongs to alum, Cara Holme, as the former standout tossed a six-inning gem against Prairie View A&M on Feb. 27, 2010.
In just 54 pitches with 46 of them strikes, the right-handed pitcher logged unbelievable numbers on the mound as she did not allow a single walk, base runner, or hit. Across 21 batters retired, Adams also reached a new season-high of five strike outs in a single game making that 16 on the season.
On the weekend, Adams finished 2-1 with the other win coming from a 10-0 run-rule defeat over Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (Feb. 29). Across the last week of action, Adams put up an impressive 1.00 ERA across 14 innings of work and 10 strike outs.
Adams and the Mavericks look ahead to Wednesday, Mar. 6 for a midweek matchup at No. 2 Texas beginning at 6 p.m.
