ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team clinched the series with a win over Utah Valley in walk-off fashion as the Mavericks defeated the Wolverines with a final score of 2-1 in 10 innings.
Friday's series opener also went into extras as a walk-off RBI-double from
Zaia Castruita secured the Mavericks' 4-3 victory as Saturday's series finale came down to a clutch RBI-double from sophomore
Marley Neises.
With Saturday's win, head coach
Kara Dill and company move on to an overall record of 17-26 with an even 8-8 record in conference play.

UTA's offense was led by sophomore catcher
Nikki Donahue as she went on to collect her best performance at the plate so far this season. Donahue was 4-4 with a walk, coming away with four singles.
Alaina Hampton (2-3),
Kaitlyn Sailor (2-5),
Morgan Westbrook (2-5) and
Camille Corona (2-5) contributed to the Mavs' 14-hit total as Corona leads UTA with 51 hits overall. The fifth year continues to lead the Mavericks with an impressive .411 batting average, 14 walks and a .468 percentage.
Castruita and Neises also came away with one hit each as Neises' walk-off double in the bottom of the 10th inning knocked in the winning run for the Mavericks.
Freshman
Abi Gutierrez has had quite the week after the lefty tossed her third complete game of the season and second of the week. The freshy reached a new career-high of 10 innings pitched, limiting UVU's lineup to just one earned runs off seven hits. Across 37 batters faced, Gutierrez came away with six strike outs.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will move on to face No. 24 Baylor in Waco for the 84th meeting between the two programs on Tuesday, Apr. 16 that is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
