UTA Scores Big, Clinches Series in DH Sweep Over ACU

ABILENE, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team continues its hot streak after clinching its series with Abilene Christian Friday with final scores of 6-0 and 9-2 from Poly Wells Field.
 
Friday's doubleheader sweep marks the third WAC series win for the Mavericks  so far this season as head coach Kara Dill and company improves to an overall record of 20-26 and 10-8 in conference.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at Abilene Christian (W, 6-0)
The Mavericks produced six hits in game one against the Wildcats as junior two-way player Jessica Adams led the way with a 2-3 performance at the plate with two RBI, making that 15 total on the season.
 
Nicole Hill (1-4), Kaitlyn Sailor (1-4, 1 RBI), Marley Neises (1-3, 1 RBI) and Nikki Donahue (1-2, 1 RBI) all contributed the UTA's success as Donahue extends her hot bat with nine hits across the last 12 at-bats. Now, the sophomore holds a .341 overall batting average.
 
Senior right-handed pitcher Gracie Bumpurs tossed her way to a complete game shutout – her second of the season. Bumpurs threw three strike outs while allowing eights hits across 31 batters.
 
Now, the senior sits on a 3-7 record in the circle.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at Abilene Christian (W, 9-2)
Despite the Wildcats scoring first in the bottom of the third, UTA responded back in a brutal way, tackling on nine runs between the fifth (7) and sixth (2) inning.
 
The Mavs' nine-run total was highlighted by Morgan Westbrooks' grand slam and Zaia Castruita's solo shot – both in the top of the fifth. The pair each share two home runs on the season as Westbrook leads with 15 RBI.
 
Kaylee Cavazos (1-2), Camille Corona (1-3, 2 RBI), Neises (1-4), Alaina Hampton (1-2) and Donahue (2-3) helped guide the Mavs to a thrilling 9-2 win over ACU.
 
Freshman Abi Gutierrez threw a complete game, limiting the Wildcats to one earned run off five hits. The lefty continues to lower her overall ERA as she now sits on a 4.13 ERA. With 29 batters faced, Gutierrez came away with four strike outs.

ON DECK
The Mavs will conclude action in Abilene with the final game of the series on Sunday, Apr. 21 with a noon start.
