ABILENE, Texas – Defense got in the Mavericks way as the UT Arlington softball team dropped the final game of the series with Abilene Christian with a final score of 5-1.
Despite Sunday's loss, the Mavericks won the overall series – third of the season – as UTA now moves on to an overall record of 20-27 and 10-9 in WAC action.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at Abilene Christian (L, 5-1)
UTA's five-hit total was led by
Camille Corona (2-2) and
Kaylee Cavazos (2-3). Fifth year
Lindsey Franklin also contributed, finishing 1-3 at the plate.
Now, Corona sits on a .400 batting average on the season as she also leads with 54 hits. Cavazos is slowly creeping up with a .276 batting average after starting in her 22nd game of the year.
Junior
Jessica Adams earned her 13th start in the circle for the Mavs this season as she went on to throw three innings, coming away with two strike outs. Across 17 batters, Adams allowed three earned runs off six hits.
Fifth year
Emilie Hoelscher made her 13th appearance of the year as she entered the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. The lefty did a good job of keeping the Wildcats off balance as she only gave up three hits across three innings of work.
With UTA unable to answer back offensively, Adams was credited the loss.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will take a break from midweek action and resume with an away series at Utah Tech beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 26 at 3 p.m. CST.
