Softball Falls to Utah Tech in DH Sweep

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The UT Arlington softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep to Utah Tech on Friday from Karl Brooks Field.

The Mavericks couldn't quite ignite a spark on all fronts as the squad now moves on to an overall record of 20-29 and 10-11 in conference play.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at Utah Tech (L, 15-1) 5 Innings
As a team, UTA struggled at the plate after piecing just four hits together. Camille Corona (1-2), Kaitlyn Sailor (1-2), Lindsey Franklin (1-2, 1 RBI) and Morgan Westbrook (1-2) were the ones responsible.

Fifth year Franklin belted her seventh home run of the year – a solo shot in the top of the fourth.

Junior Jessica Adams got the start in the circle and threw just two innings, allowing eight runs off seven hits. Freshman Jade Moreno entered the game in the bottom of the third inning and faced 15 batters.

UTA could not get a comeback going as Adams took the loss.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at Utah Tech (L, 8-4)
The Mavericks turned their offense around from game one's performance as UTA produced a double-digital total with 13 hits. Corona and Sailor led the Mavs with multi-hit outings, finishing 3-4 at the plate.

Corona improved her overall batting average to .411 with 58 hits as she was one of four Mavericks who came away with at least one hit in both contests. The other Mavericks were Sailor, Westbrook, and Franklin.

Joining the two was sophomore Alaina Hampton who collected her fourth multi-hit contest of the season as she went 2-3. Now, the infielder holds 17 hits overall.

Freshman Abi Gutierrez and fifth year Emilie Hoelscher both shared time in the circle for UTA as Gutierrez earned her 11th start of the season. The freshy went on to toss five innings, allowing four earned runs off four hits.

Lefty Hoelscher made a brief one-inning appearance as she faced just nine batters, limiting the Trailblazers' lineup to three hits. Unfortunately, UTA fell short, handing Gutierrez the loss.

ON DECK
The Mavs will conclude action in St. George with the final game of the series on Saturday, Apr. 27 with a 1 p.m. (CT) first pitch.
