OREM, UTAH – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team fell to the Utah Valley Wolverines 5-1 in the series finale at UCCU Ballpark.
GAME FLOW
It was a pitchers duel for the first 3 innings as both teams were held scoreless and only 1 hit was recorded from the Wolverines.
The Mavericks were able to strike first after
Ryan Black, who mashed the first hit of the day for the Mavericks, hit a solo homerun to left field to take a 1-0 lead. In the next at bat,
Tyson Pointer got on base with a single to center field, which was the only other hit of the day for the Mavericks.
The Wolverines answered back with a run in the bottom of the 5th inning to even the game at 1-1 and took the lead with a 3-run inning in the 6th inning to take control of the game.
Utah Valley plated one more run in the 8th inning to increase its lead to 5-1, which is where the game stayed until the final out.
PITCHING PROFILE
Caden Noah got the start for the Mavs and he was able to pitch 4.1 innings, allowing just 1 earned run on 4 hits and registered 3 strikeouts
Garrett Gearner came in as relief in the 7th inning and pitched for 2.1 innings and was able to allow no hits and put away 2 Wolverines on strikes.
ON DECK
The Mavs will head south to Austin for a midweek game against the Texas Longhorns on Tuesday, Apr. 23 at 6:00 p.m.
