ARLINGTON – UT Arlington's
Zach Norris claimed his second Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week this season, league officials announced Monday.
Norris dominated during his Friday start last week, ringing up 7 batters in 7 innings pitched. The Senior from Paris, Texas gave up just 4 hits and 0 earned runs in his start to help propel the Mavs to its first shutout win of the season. Norris also picked up his 5th win of the season, improving his record to 5-5.
Throughout the season, Norris has registered a minimum of 5 strikeouts in seven out of his twelve starts. Additionally, the Paris, Texas native currently ranks 57th in the NCAA in strikeout-to-walk ratio with a mark of 4.42.
Norris, throughout the season, has achieved career highs in games started (12), wins (5), innings pitched (63.2), strikeouts (60) and has only allowed 13 walks all season. His 13 walks allowed ranks T-38th in the NCAA, and his 1.91 walks allowed per nine innings rank 59th in the NCAA.
The Mavs are scheduled to play Dallas Baptist on Tuesday, May 7, at Horner Ballpark in Dallas. Then, with a quick turnaround, the Mavs will head to Seattle for a 3-game conference clash against Seattle U, May 10-12.
