FORT WORTH, Texas – The UT Arlington cross country teams kicked off the 2024 season at the John McKenzie Invitational on Saturday, August 31, morning. The men's team finished third overall while the women's squad finished fourth, highlighted by a third-place finish from
Winnie Kipsang.
In her opening sophomore season race, Kipsang paced the women with a time of 18:10.65 to finish third in a crowded field of 60 runners. Freshman
Emilia Mandl finished 16th overall in her Maverick debut, clocking in with a time of 19:15.72.
Krianne McBride was the third Mav to cross the finish line, finishing 24th with a time of 20:00.08. Senior Clair Compher finished in the top 30, coming in at 29th overall with a time of 20:11.62. Rounding out the top five finishers for the women was
Kassandra Jimenez, who finished 31st overall with a time of 20:13.85.
The women had no one finish outside the top 40 for a fourth-place team finish.
On the men's side,
Patrick Estes led the charge with a top 10 finish, coming in at ninth with a time of 15:15.39.
Jackson Cichon clocked in with a time of 15:25.63 while finishing 14th overall. Andrés Gurrola rounded out the top 20 for the Mavs, coming in at 17th with a time of 15:28.61. Rounding out the top five finishers for the men were
Josue Granados who finished 21st with a time of 15:36.94 and
Brian Guevara who finished 22nd with a time of 15:40.09.
No Mav finished outside the top 30 in a field of over 60 runners for the men. UTA finished third overall on the men's side of the course.

The Mavs return to action next Saturday, September 7, as they host the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational at Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake.
