Mavs Deliver Second Consecutive Sweep, Defeat Jackson State

LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA - The UT Arlington volleyball team defeated the Jackson State Tigers in a 3-0 sweep (25-14) (25-22) (25-18) in the second match of the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic this Saturday. This win is also the first time since 2017 that the Mavericks opened the season with back-to-back sweeps, where the Mavericks took down Southern and McNeese State.

The Mavericks dominated most of the game as the squad notched 41 kills. Brianna Ford led the team with 9 kills while Cansu Günaydin picked up 8 of her own. Both Paige Reagor and Alexis Bull contributed 7 each in a strong performance.

Jalie Tritt, making her first appearance of the season, made a difference in the win as she picked up 5 kills in 7 total attempts.

In the win, freshmen Isabella Camacho and Jacy Bray made their collegiate debut in the third set. Bray, a native of Nixa, Missouri, notched her first career dig in the final set of the match.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH
"Great team win over a solid program," said head coach J.T. Wenger. "We had some notable individual performances, but as a team we looked efficient and poised when it came to serving and passing."

NEXT UP
The Mavericks are right back at it tomorrow against the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns in the finale of the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic. The match is slated for an 11 a.m. start time in the EK Long Gymnasium on the campus of Louisiana-Lafayette.
