NORMAN, Okla. – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (0-1) fell 4-0 in their season opener against No. 10 Oklahoma (3-0) at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Sunday evening.
The Sooners were quick to take the doubles point, taking Courts 3 and 2 to clinch the early lead.
The pairing of
Yazid Lahjomri and
Mattia Ricci fell 6-2 to Asahi Harazaki and Alejandro Melero on Court 3. Court 2 followed, with
Andres Medus and Daniel Pérez-Caraballo falling 6-4 to Kholo Montsi and Luis Alvarez.
Singles play followed similarly, with the Sooners earning the next three matches for the 4-0 win.
Lahjomri finished first on Court 4, falling to Orel Kimhi in straight sets. Kimhi defeated Lahjomri 6-0, 6-0 to gain the 2-0 lead.
Returner
Pedro Sasso dropped the next match on Court 1, losing to Oscar Lacides 6-3, 6-1.
Luis Alvarez clinched the match for the Sooners on Court 2 against
Meethre Barot. Alvarez took the match in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-2.
Medus, Ricci, and Pérez-Caraballo all went unfinished.
The Mavericks will open their home slate on Wednesday, Jan. 22, when they host Pepperdine. The game, originally scheduled to take place at the UTA Tennis Center will now be held at indoor courts at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on the campus of SMU due to the projected bad weather heading towards North Texas.
