ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (0-2) is set for the home opener against New Mexico at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1 followed by UTSA at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2 at the UTA Tennis Center over the weekend.
The Mavericks are coming off loses to No. 10 Oklahoma and Pepperdine. UTA was swept 4-0 in Norman and battled with Pepperdine before falling 5-2. The Mavs secured the doubles point thanks to wins on Court 2 and 3. The pairing of
Pedro Sasso and
Meethre Barot took down Linus Halldin and Maxi Homberg on Court 2 by a score of 7-6 (4) while the team of
Andres Medus and
Mattia Ricci defeated Aleksa Pisaric and Lasse Poertner on Court 3 by a score of 6-3. Ricci defeated Hugh Winter 6-1, 6-3 to pick up the Mavs lone singles win.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO
The Lobos are 0-1 on the season, falling to SMU. This will be the third ever matchup between the two programs. The Mavs are 0-2 in the all-time series with the last match coming in 2023 and the first back in 1991. This will be the Lobos first ever trip to Arlington.
SCOUTING UTSA
The Roadrunners are 1-1 on the season, falling to Texas A&M 6-1 and defeating UTRGV 4-0. This will be the 46th overall matchup between the two programs with the Mavs holding a 26-19 overall record. UTA has dropped the past five matches in the series and holds a 13-8 home record.
