Mavericks Secure Huge Win Over the Utah Tech, Securing Second Conference Win of the Season

ARLINGTON, TX – The UT Arlington volleyball team secured a statement victory over Utah Tech on Saturday, earning their second conference win of the season and snapping the Trailblazers' undefeated conference record. The Mavs now hold a 10-8 overall record and 2-4 in WAC play.

UTA jumped out to a hot start in the opening set, taking a 5-3 lead and keeping that momentum to extend the score 9-4 before Utah Tech called its first timeout. The Trailblazers struggled to find rhythm early, committing several errors as the Mavericks built a commanding 17-7 advantage. UTA maintained control throughout the set and closed it out, 25-14.

Utah Tech came out strong in the second set, jumping to an 11-7 lead before UTA called a timeout. The Trailblazers continued to apply pressure, extending their advantage 15-9 and forcing another Maverick timeout at 17-9. Despite the solid blocking from UTA, Utah tech's consistency helped them stay in control and take the set, 25-16, evening the match at one set apiece.

UTA started strong in the third set, taking a quick 5-2 lead before Utah Tech battled back to tie it at 5-5. The Trailblazers briefly pulled ahead 6-5, but the Mavericks regained the lead behind a pair of kills from Jalie Tritt to go up 7-9. Both teams traded points through the middle of the set, with neither side leading by more than two. UTA called a timeout trailing 21-19, then rallied late to take the tightly contested frame, 28-26, and a 2-1 match lead.

Utah Tech opened the fourth set strong, jumped ahead 4-1 and prompting an early UTA timeout. The Mavericks responded with a run to tie the score at 9-9 before edging ahead 12-11. After an unsuccessful Utah Tech challenge on a service ace from Hana Aiana, UTA maintained the momentum down the stretch. The Trailblazers called timeout trailing 19-18, but the Mavericks held firm to close out the set 25-22 and secure the 3-1 win.
