ARLINGTON, TX -- The UT Arlington volleyball team earned their third conference win over California Baptist Thursday night in College Park Center. The Mavs now hold an 11-8 overall record and 3-4 in WAC play.
UTA came out strong, jumping to a 9-6 lead early in the opening set. A CBU challenge on a ball landing in bounds at 6-11 was unsuccessful. The Mavericks extended their advantage to 15-9 before the Lancers used two more timeouts. UTA maintained control to take the first set 25-14.
CBU opened the second set with a 5-1 run before UTA rallied to close the gap to 5-9. The Mavericks then surged ahead with a 7-0 run to take a 12-9 lead. The Lancers responded quickly to regain the advantage at 14-13, prompting a UTA timeout. The Mavericks came back to even the score at 23-23 before pulling away to win the set, 25-23.
CBU jumped out to 5-2 lead in the third set. Three back-to-back service errors brought the score, 8-3. The Maverick continued to battle, bringing the score 11-12 due to two service aces by Mira Ledermueller and a kill from Jalie Tritt. Cal Baptist called a timeout after UTA took a 13-12 lead. The teams traded points down the stretch, with UTA holding a slim 22-20 advantage. After multiple challenges and timeouts, CBU managed to edge out the set, 31-29.
UTA took slim lead heading into fourth set, 8-5, but CBU crept back up due to a few errors on UTA's side. The Mavericks took a timeout, leading by one, 8-7. Two kills from Tritt and a kill from Andrea Nunez, helped the Mavs gain a lead of 14-10. Cal Baptist took timeout with UTA leading 17-13. The Lancers took another timeout with the Mavs continuing to lead 19-14. UTA extended their lead, 23-17 with the help of a couple of kills from Evyn Snook and Ledermueller. UTA took a timeout, leading 23-20. UTA ultimately snagged the final points, taking the fourth set 25-21.
UTA took an early 8-5 lead in the fourth set before CBU closed the gap to one, 8-7. The Mavericks regained control behind two kills from Tritt and another from Andrea Nunez to go up 14-10. The Lancers called two timeouts as UTA continued to extend its advantage, leading 19-14. UTA extended its lead to 23-17 with kills from Ledermueller and Evyn Snook. After a late timeout with the Mavs up 23-20, UTA closed out the set, 25-21, to secure the match victory.
