ARLINGTON, TX – The UT Arlington volleyball team fell to Tarleton State in a five-set thriller Thursday night at College Park Center (17-25, 25-19, 25-27, 25-21, 9-15). The Mavericks now hold an 11-9 overall record and a 3-5 mark in WAC play.

The opening set featured a steady back-and-forth battle between both teams before Tarleton pulled ahead midway through. UTA called a timeout trailing 13-10 and again at 17-14 to slow the Texans' momentum, but Tarleton maintained control to take the set 25-17. UTA took an early timeout trailing 6-3 in the second set, before Tarleton extended its lead with a five-point run. The Mavericks battled back with a 3-0 surge to close the gap to 11-7 and later trailed by just two at 14-12. After trading points mid-set, UTA regained control at 18-17 and used a 5-0 run to pull ahead 22-17. The Mavericks held on to win the set 25-19, evening the match at one set apiece.

The third set featured another tight battle, with both teams trading points midway through. UTA called timeout trailing 18-14 and began to rally, closing the gap to 19-20 after a successful challenge from Tania Schatow. The Mavericks evened the score 21-21, but Tarleton pulled ahead late. Despite UTA fighting off set points, the Texans edged out the frame 27-25 to take a 2-1 match lead.

UTA came out strong in the fourth set, jumping ahead 11-7. The Mavericks maintained their edge with steady offense and key plays at the net. Jalie Tritt was a major contributor in the frame, recording seven kills to help UTA close out the set 25-21 and force a decisive fifth.

UTA started strong in the final frame, taking an early 5-3 lead before Tarleton responded with a three-point run to tie it at 6-6. Several successful kills from the Texans shifted the momentum, and Tarleton pulled away to take the set 15-9 and sealing the match victory.
