ABILENE, Texas – The UT Arlington volleyball team's comeback bid fell just short on the road to Abilene Christian in an exciting five sets (13-25, 17-25, 27-25, 25-20, 13-15) inside the Moody Coliseum.
The loss drops the Mavericks' record to 11-10 overall and 3-6 in Western Athletic Conference play.
GAME NOTES
» UTA had four players in double figures in kills: Evyn Snook (14), Sophia Krichev (13), Camryn McMinn (13) and Sophie Ocampo (11).
» Samantha Gleen had match highs in digs (20) and service aces (4).
» Camryn McMinn registered the lone double-double for the Mavs with 13 kills and 14 digs.
» Snook had a match-high 14 kills for the Mavs.
» UTA attackers were helped by a match-high 56 assists from Mira Ledermueller.
» Alondra Hernandez chipped in with 14 digs.
» Hana Aiana led the Mavs with six blocks for the match.
GAME FLOW
SET 1 | The Mavs found themselves in an early hole, losing a tough first set 25-13. UTA trailed by as many as 12 points as ACU never gave up the lead in a set that was knotted up just once before the Wildcats took control.
SET 2 | UTA dropped the second set 25-17, digging a 2-0 hole in the match. The Mavs trailed by as many as nine points as ACU grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was tied up just once before the Wildcats took over the lead. ACU ended the set on a 3-0 run.
SET 3 | The Mavs fought back to pull within two sets to one, winning their first set of the match in the third stanza. UTA came out on top of a tight battle, winning 27-25 in a set that was tied nine times and had four lead changes. Two service aces from Glenn started a 5-0 run that gave UTA a 9-6 lead before an ACU timeout. The Mavs would run it up to a 6-0 coming out of the timeout before ACU managed to break the streak at 10-7. ACU managed to tie it at 17 apiece after a 5-0 run and the remainder of the set would be back and forth. The UTA offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza. UTA's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Wildcat attacks in the stanza.
SET 4 | UTA continued their comeback, winning the fourth set 25-20 to bring the match level at two sets apiece. The Mavs took the lead for good at 15-14 in a set that featured 12 ties and six lead changes. UTA's win came in a stanza where 17 of their 25 points came via the kill.
SET 5 | UTA could not get over the hump in the final set, never leading in set five despite managing to pull within one point on several occasions.
NEXT UP
UTA returns to the College Park Center for their final home match of the 2025 season when they welcome Utah Valley to Arlington on Saturday, Nov. 8. First serve is set for 1 p.m. CT. The match is also Senior Day for UTA.
