FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman
Dorcas Jepkosgei collected her second top two finish of the season in record-breaking fashion at Arkansas' highly touted Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday.
Following Saturday's performance, Jepkosgei set a new 5k all-time best of 16:09.5 in UTA program history. The newcomer has racked up two second place finishes and one first place finish so far this season which came from the Texas A&M Invitational nearly three weeks ago.
"Dorcas continues to run with elite athletes," shared head coach John Sauerhage. "She has run against 509 runners so far and has only been beaten by two athletes this season."
As a team, the women's squad placed sixth with 229 points as junior
Matro Jepkemboi followed Jepkosgei with an eighth-place finish, capturing a time of 16:47.2. The veteran shaved off 16 seconds, setting a new personal record. Contributing to the Mavericks' outing were
Emilia Mandl (18:09.3),
Lauren Baur (18:17.8) and
Linn Adolfsson (18:24.5).
On the men's side, sophomore transfer
Toby Eaton paced the Mavs once again with an 24th place finish after posting a time of 24:41.4 in the men's 8k.
Rounding out the men's top five finishers were
Alex Kalmar (24:55.8),
Kebede Kerlin (25:06.3),
Mateo Doherty (25:28.3),
Angel Sanchez (25:33.8), leading to a 9th place finish.

The Mavs return to action with the final meet of the regular season on Friday, Oct. 17 with Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station.
