BEAUMONT, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team closed out the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational Sunday morning from the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center which ended with a singles flight title for one Maverick.
Transfer Saúl Berdullas Calviño went a perfect 4-0 over the weekend to pick up his first singles flight title in the Mavs second fall tournament. Berdullas Calviño defeated Texas A&M – Corpus Christi's Matthieu Coignet 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 10-7 and Josu Garmendia 2-6, 6-2, 10-3. He defeated Lamar's Guy Dagan by way of Dagan retiring from action due to injury, all in pool play. In the flight three singles championship, Berdullas Calviño defeated TAMUCC's Filip Vacula 6-3, 6-2 to claim his first flight title of the fall campaign.
Yazid Lahjomri went an even 2-2 over the weekend, defeating TAMUCC's Etienne Marty 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) and Josep Zapletal 6-2, 6-1 to finish fifth in the flight one singles bracket.
The Mavs now have two weeks as they prepare for the ITA Regional Championships which are being hosted by Texas A&M in College Station.
