MBB: Mavs Head to Albuquerque to Battle New Mexico on Saturday

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – UT Arlington men's basketball (1-0) embarks on its first road trip of the season, as the Mavs head to the Land of Enchantment to take on New Mexico on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 3 p.m. from The Pit in Albuquerque. That game will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and on the radio on KWRD 100.7 FM and the Varsity Network App with the Voice of the Mavs, Josh Sours.

UTA is coming off a 91-40 season-opening win over UNT Dallas on Monday, Nov. 3. UTA raced out to a 32-point halftime advantage, holding the visiting Trailblazers to 14 points and 8.7% shooting in the opening half. Senior forward Raysean Seamster paced the Mavs, who had four in double figures in the win. Seamster recorded his first career double-double, posting a team-high 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds on 8-of-13 from the field.

The Mavericks' opponent, New Mexico, won its season-opener on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 76-54 over visiting East Texas A&M.

The Lobos are led by Eric Olen, who joined the program in March of this year following his 12-year stint as head coach at UC San Diego (also spent an additional nine years on staff as an assistant). Olen was 240-119 overall with the Tritons as their head coach.

New Mexico went 27-8 last season and reached the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. The Lobos were Mountain West Champions and former head coach Richard Pitino left to take the same position at Xavier.

New Mexico saw a trio of guards score in double figures in its season-opening win, as Jake Hall and Uriah Tenette each had 14, and Tajavis Miller added 11. Tenette also had five assists, while big man Tomislav Buljan pulled down a team-high 15 boards.

Saturday's meeting with the Lobos will be the sixth meeting between the programs all-time, with New Mexico coming out on top in each of the first five contests. That includes the last meeting, which came during UTA head coach KT Turner's first season, an 82-80 loss at the buzzer at the Pit.
