ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's basketball (8-4, 0-0 WAC) senior guard Marcell McCreary was named Western Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week following his performance last week in the win at Oral Roberts.
The Northern Colorado transfer has been on a tear for the Mavericks, having scored in double figures in nine of his last 10 games, including a 16-point outing at Oral Roberts where he shot 4-of-7 from distance. He also had a pair of steals and three rebounds in the win that lifted the Mavs to their best start since the 2017-18 season, when that team opened 9-4.
This is the first WAC weekly honor for McCreary and the Mavs this season. The Fort Worth native is averaging 12.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.9 apg and 1.7 spg in 12 appearances thus far for the Mavs, 10 of which are starts.
UTA opens WAC play Monday night when it hosts Tarleton State (9-4, 0-0 WAC) at 7 p.m. CT at the College Park Center in Arlington. Tickets are available for Monday night's contest here.
