Lady Mavs Hit The Road Looking To Push Winning Streak To 7 Games At California Baptist On Thursday Evening

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (14-7, 9-1 WAC) look to push their winning streak to seven games when they take on California Baptist (8-15, 5-4 WAC) on Thursday, Feb. 13, from inside the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center for an 8 p.m. central tipoff.
 
The Lady Mavs are looking for their tenth conference win in 11 games which would be their best start to conference play since the 2006-07 season when they went a perfect 16-0 in Southland Conference play. The 9-1 conference start so far is the best start to conference play since the 2008-09 season when they started 9-1 and finished 14-2 in Southland play.
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the sixth overall meeting between the two programs with the Lady Mavs trailing in the all-time series 0-5 in a series dating back to 2022 when UTA rejoined the Western Athletic Conference while California Baptist was not a member during UTA's first rendezvous in the conference. The Lady Mavs are 0-2 in Riverside. The last time the two meet was in the semifinals of last year's conference tournament in Las Vegas where CBU won 83-67 to knock the Lady Mavs out of the tournament. In the series, the Lady Mavs average 72 points per game.
 
SCOUTING CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
The Lancers carry an 8-15 record with a 5-4 conference record into the game. CBU lost their last time out at Grand Canyon, 84-55. The Lancers hold a 3-7 record at home, dropping their last two home games. As a team, the Lancers average 63.4 points per game while shooting 39.9 percent from the floor and 31 percent from deep on the season. In eight games, Khloe Lemon averages 18.4 points per game to lead the Lancers. Grace Schmidt averages 13.9 points and a team high 7.3 rebounds per game through 19 games.
 
NATURAL BORN SCORER
Fifth year transfer Koi Love is solidifying herself as one of the top scorers in the Western Athletic Conference. 
 
Through 21 games, Love is averaging 17.0 points per game, which is currently the second-best mark in the WAC and the 80th best mark in the nation as of Feb. 11. Love has put up 358 total points in the Lady Mavs' 21 games, which is second in the conference. She has made 152 field goals on the season, which is tops in the WAC and 64th in the NCAA while her 53.3 field goal percentage is the second-best mark in the WAC and 43rd overall. She has six 20-point performances on the season.
 
ALL AROUND HOOPER
Avery Brittingham has proven time and time again that she is one of the premier players in this league. She has posted a league high 11 double doubles through 21 games which is 18th in the country. She nearly averages a double double for the season with 12.8 points per game and 9.2 rebounds per game.
 
Her 1.72 assist to turnover ratio is fourth in the conference and 106th in the country.
 
IF IT'S FREE, IT'S FOR ME
As a team, the Lady Mavs are one of the best teams in the nation in getting to the free throw line for the season, averaging a league high 22.33 free throw attempts per game which is the tenth best mark nationally. Their average of 15.67 free throws made per game is tops in the league and 18th nationally. Their 70.1 free throw percentage is the fifth best mark in the WAC.
 
Brittingham is third in the conference and 78th in the country with 115 free throw attempts while Miraya Perkins' 79.7 free throw percentage is the second-best mark in the WAC.
 
DEFENSIVE INTENSITY
The Lady Mavs force 19.90 turnovers a game, the fourth best mark in the WAC and the 45th best mark in the NCAA.
 
Their 10.4 steals per contest are the fourth best mark in the conference and 42nd in the country.
 
The Lady Mavs have the fourth best turnover margin in the WAC and the 78th best in the NCAA at 3.19.
 
Love's 53 steals are the fifth most in the WAC and 66th in the country. Her average of 2.52 steals per game is the third best mark in the conference and 35th nationally. Brittingham's average of 1.86 steals per contest is the 12th best mark in the WAC.
 
The Lady Mavs have the fifth best scoring defense in the conference at 65.6.
 
HIGH OCTANE OFFENSE
The Lady Mavs have the second-best scoring offense in the conference and 61st best in the country, averaging 73.3 points per game. Their 7.7 scoring margin in the third best mark in the WAC and 95th in the NCAA. The bench averages 22.4 points per game, the second-best mark in the conference and 82nd nationally. Their field goal percentage of 42.1 percent is the third best mark in the conference.
 
QUEENS OF THE BOARDS
The Lady Mavs are one of the top rebounding teams in the country, averaging a league leading 39.71 rebounds per game which is the 54th best mark in the country. Offensively, UTA averages 13.2 which is fourth best in the WAC and 69th best in the NCAA. Defensively, their average of 26.5 is second in the WAC and 94th in the NCAA. The Lady Mavs own the fifth best rebound margin in the conference at 1.3.
 
Brittingham's 9.2 rebounds per game are second in the conference and are 49th nationally while her 194 total rebounds are the second most in the WAC and 82nd in the NCAA. Love's average of 7.0 rebounds per game is the seventh best mark in the conference.
 
TAKING CARE OF THE ROCK
The Lady Mavs are one of the best in the conference when taking care of the basketball, averaging 16.7 turnovers per game which is the fourth best mark in the WAC.
 
STILL THROWING A BLOCK PARTY
The Lady Mavs are still one of the better shot blocking teams in the WAC a year later after leading the league and having two of the top shot blockers in the conference a season ago. The Lady Mavs average 4.2 blocks per game, the best mark in the conference and 46th nationally. The Lady Mavs once again have two of the top seven shot blockers in the WAC with Love averaging a block per game, the fifth highest mark in the conference while Brittingham averages 0.90 per game the seventh highest mark in the conference.
 
UTA has posted at least one block in each of their 21 games, with 19 of those seeing the Lady Mavs with multiple blocked shots. Last time out, the Lady Mavs posted seven blocks which was their best shot blocking effort in conference play this season so far. Through conference play, the Lady Mavs have 43 blocked shots, second most in that span behind California Baptist.
 
THE FACILITATORS
The Lady Mavs are one of the top teams in the conference when it comes to dishing out assists, their 16.3 per game are the second most in the WAC and 42nd overall in the NCAA. Their 0.97 assist to turnover ratio is the second-best mark in the conference and 93rd best in the NCAA.
 
Brittingham's 93 total assists lead the team and are the fifth most in conference while her average of 4.4 per game are the fourth best mark in the conference and 77th nationally. Love's 3.3 assists per contest is the seventh best mark in the league.
 
EIGHT FOR NO. 8
Koi Love was named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Newcomer of the Week for a record eighth time this season, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. This is the most weekly honors a player has received in the WAC's history in a single season.
 
The fifth-year guard from Orlando, Fla., averaged 15.5 points, seven rebounds, four assists and 2.5 steals in helping the Lady Mavs to conference victories over Utah Valley and Seattle U. The two wins moved UTA to a 9-1 conference record, the Lady Mavs best start to conference play in 16 years. The wins also kept the Lady Mavs perfect home record intact, moving it to 10-0, their best start at home since the 2004-05 season when they finished 11-0 at home. Two home games remain on the Lady Mavs schedule. The win pushed the Lady Mavs current win streak to six games, their longest streak of the season. In the 85-83 revenge win over Utah Valley, Love finished with 12 points, a team high seven rebounds, tied her conference mark with six assists along with two steals in a game high 35 minutes. Against the Redhawks of Seattle U, Love led all scorers with 19 points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out two assists to go along with three steals and a block in 25 minutes of action.
 
For the season, Love leads the Lady Mavs in points per game, averaging 17 which is the second-best mark in the WAC and 80th in the country. Love has put up 358 total points, the second-best mark in the conference while her 152 total field goals lead the WAC and is 64th in the country. Her 53.3 field goal percentage is the second-best mark in the WAC while the 43rd best mark in the NCAA. Love is also seventh in the conference with 3.3 assists per game while her 7.0 rebounds per game is also the seventh best mark in the conference. Love also gets it done defensively as well, her 2.52 steals per game is the third best mark in the WAC and 35th in the NCAA while her 53 total steals are fifth best in the WAC and 66th in the NCAA.
 
Through ten games in conference play, Love is averaging 17.7 points per game which is tied for the second most in the league. Her 55.1 field goal percentage is the fourth most is the WAC. Love averages 7.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 steals per contest in WAC play alone.
 
TRIPLE DOUBLE FACTORY
There have been 23 triple doubles in all of NCAA Division I so far in the season and the Lady Mavs have three of those 23 with Avery Brittingham (2) and Koi Love (1). UTA is the only team with multiple players to post a triple double. Brittingham is tied for fifth amongst active players with four career triple double performances. In program history, the Lady Mavs have five with three of those coming this season and Brittingham is the only player with multiples, three in her tenure with UTA.
 
THE PRICE IS WRIGHT
Head coach Shereka Wright overtook Samantha Morrow (2007-13) for the fifth most wins in school history with 75 after their then sixth conference win of the season over Southern Utah on Jan. 30, 2025. After the Lady Mavs win against Seattle U at home, Wright now has 78 wins and trails Krista Gerlich (121), Donna Capps (119), Connie Kelch (117) and Mike Dean (115). Wright's .586 winning percentage is the best in program history.
