Sailor Homers Twice in UT Arlington's 6-4 Loss to McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, La. - Sophomore Kaitlyn Sailor put together a stellar outing at the plate Thursday, hitting two homers, but the UT Arlington Mavericks fell to the McNeese Cowgirls 6-4.

Sixth year Emilie Hoelscher (1-1) came out of the bullpen for UT Arlington (4-2) and took the loss.

Sailor went 2-4 at the plate, supplementing her two home runs with three RBI. Junior Kailee Bautista added to Sailor's electric power-hitting performance by going 2-3 with a double. Freshman Talia Maldonado also helped out for the Mavericks, going 1-3 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mavericks got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Sailor put UT Arlington on the board with a two-out solo home run off junior Ryann Schexnayder.

The Cowgirls failed to push any runs across before the Mavericks built on their lead in the third inning. UT Arlington scored twice on Sailor's two-run homer, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Mavericks.

UT Arlington's lead had disappeared by the time the seventh inning arrived and turned into a 6-3 McNeese advantage, when the Mavericks cut that deficit to 6-4. The contest ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.
