CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (3-5) is set to travel to Corpus Christi to participate in the 61st annual H-E-B Tournament of Champions hosted by Texas A&M – Corpus Christi this Friday, Feb. 21 through Sunday, Feb. 23.
The Mavericks will face New Mexico State on Friday at 5 p.m. from the Corpus Christi Athletic Club. The match was originally scheduled to be played at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center but due to weather conditions, was moved to the indoor courts at the Corpus Christi Athletic Club.
The H-E-B Tournament of Champions is the longest running college team tournament in the country, spanning over 61 years of college tennis action. This is the second straight year the Mavs are participating in the tournament, matching up against DePaul and New Mexico State in last year's tournament and going 1-1. The Mavs fell in a hard fought 4-3 battle with DePaul before sweeping New Mexico State 4-0 the next day.
The Mavs are looking for their second straight win, coming off a 4-0 sweep of Oral Roberst at home this past Saturday, Feb. 15. The Mavs took the doubles point and took the match thanks to singles wins on Court 2 by

Pedro Sasso and Court 4 by
Federico Garbero.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO STATE
The Aggies carry a 6-8 overall record into the match and are winners their last time out against Illinois State, 4-3. The Mavs are 12-5 all-time against the Aggies and are currently riding a three-match win streak that dates back to 2019. This will be the third season in a row the two programs have met on the courts, with UTA being victorious in all three. This will be the second time the two have met in neutral Corpus Christi and second time overall they meet at a neutral site. The Mavs are 8-2 in their last 10 meetings.
