MBB: UTA Looks to Bounce Back, Hosts ACU on Senior Day Saturday Afternoon

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's basketball (13-15, 6-8 WAC) returns home for Senior Day when the Mavs take on in-state rival Abilene Christian (14-14, 6-7 WAC) on Saturday afternoon. The game tips off at 2 p.m. CT from the College Park Center, and will be broadcast on ESPN+, and on the radio on the Varsity App, 102.5 FM and KTNO 620 AM with the Voice of the Mavericks, Josh Sours.

The Mavericks are coming off a defeat at the hands of Grand Canyon on the road, 85-71, in Phoenix on Thursday night, while the Wildcats are looking to bounce back themselves from a setback at Tarleton State, 67-52, also on Thursday night.

Abilene Christian enters play at 14-14, and is 6-7 in WAC play, following that loss in Stephenville on Thursday night.

The Wildcats are led by fourth-year head coach Brette Tanner. Prior to his time as head coach, Tanner spent eight seasons as Associate Head Coach under former ACU and current UTEP head coach Joe Golding. Before that, Tanner was the lead assistant at Stephen F. Austin. Tanner has also been an assistant at South Plains College (2004-06) and was a head coach at both Fort Scott (Kansas) CC and also worked for current Ole Miss head coach Chris Beard as an assistant for two seasons.

Abilene Christian is led by guard Quion WIlliams (13.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg). Williams had 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting back on Jan. 25, against the Mavs. Forward Leonardo Bettiol, who is averaging a team-high 13.3 ppg and 3.9 rpg is the other Wildcat who is averaging double figures this season. He had 14 points and eight rebounds in the last meeting with the Mavericks on Jan. 25.

Saturday's meeting between UTA and ACU will be the 34th all-time, with the Wildcats holding a 22-11 advantage, including three of the past five dating back to 2021.
