SAN ANTONIO - Despite dropping its final game in Incarnate Word's tournament on Sunday, Feb. 9, the UT Arlington softball team capped opening weekend at 4-1 after picking up wins over Prairie View, Eastern Illinois and UIW.
Sophomore Jade Moreno (1-0) started and took the loss in the circle for UT Arlington (4-1). Senior Emilie Hoelscher was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going three innings, surrendering one run on two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UT Arlington managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The Mavericks last got a runner on third in the first, when junior Elizabeth Baylor made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs.
GAME NOTES
» UT Arlington pitchers faced 24 Incarnate Word hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and seven fly balls.
» Baylor led the Mavericks at the plate, going 1-for-2.
» Incarnate Word was led offensively by freshman Quintero, who went 2-for-3 with a double.
» Jacquez led the Cardinals pitching staff, throwing five shutout innings.
