ARLINGTON, Texas --The UT Arlington Mavericks took a 3-0 lead in the third inning and never trailed from there on the way to an 8-2 win against the Little Rock Trojans on Friday.
Sophomore Caylon Dygert (3-2) got the win for UT Arlington (5-9). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Senior Caden Noah also pitched well, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. UT Arlington scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of senior Maxwell Mims.
The Mavericks then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the seventh inning after the Trojans cut it to 3-2. The UT Arlington offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Xander McAfee and a two-run single from freshman Cade Dodson, which brought the Mavericks lead to 8-2. The score remained 8-2 for the rest of the game, as UT Arlington coasted to the win.
