UTA's Late Rally Not Enough In Loss To No. 10 Oklahoma

NORMAN, OK --An explosive offensive output, and a solo homrun from Austin Phillips in the top of the ninth was not enough for UT Arlington on Tuesday. The Mavericks put up six runs, but could not hold the No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners at bay, and were bested 7-6 in walk off fashion.

Junior Aaron Calhoun (0-1) came out of the bullpen for UT Arlington (6-11) and took the loss. Senior Caden Noah was a bright spot for the Mavericks, starting the ballgame and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mavericks got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. UT Arlington scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of freshman Austin Phillips.

The Mavericks then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the third inning after the Sooners cut it to 3-2. UT Arlington picked up a run on senior Tyce Armstrong's leadoff home run off of sophomore Gavyn Jones, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Mavericks.

UT Arlington's lead had disappeared by the time the sixth inning arrived and turned into a 6-4 Oklahoma advantage, when the Mavericks cut that deficit to 6-5. The Mavericks scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Larry Haskins.

UT Arlington kept the Sooners off the board before tying it up in the ninth. The Mavericks recorded a run on Phillips' two-out solo homer off senior Reid Hensley, evening the score at 6-6. Oklahoma then scored one time in the bottom half of the ninth to break the tie and grab the 7-6 win.
