ARLINGTON, Texas -- The UT Arlington softball team powered by Houston Christian on Tuesday, leading to 10 runs off nine hits after six innings.
Senior Jessica Adams (5-2) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for UTA. The right-hander went four innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits. Senior Emilie Hoelscher also made an impact in the circle for the Mavericks, starting the ballgame and throwing two scoreless innings while allowing three hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. UTA's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run double off the bat of freshman Talia Maldonado.
The Mavs then held the Huskies scoreless before expanding their lead in the fourth inning. UTA pushed across a run on junior Dee McClarity's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 6-0 in favor of the Mavericks.
HCU narrowed UTA's lead to 6-2 before the Mavericks stretched the advantage to 9-2 in the fifth inning. The Mavs scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of junior Marley Neises that scored Maldonado and sophomore Emma Lopez.
UTA kept the Huskies scoreless before their offense got in gear the next inning. Junior Elizabeth Baylor crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Mavericks, bringing the score to 10-2 in favor of the Mavs. The score remained 10-2 for the rest of the game, as the Mavericks coasted to the win.
