UTA Knocks Off North Texas 4-2 in Eight Innings

DENTON, Texas --The UT Arlington Mavericks pulled off the 4-2 extra-innings victory over the North Texas Mean Green on Wednesday.

Senior Jessica Adams (6-2) got the win for UT Arlington. The right-hander went 7.1 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.

At the plate, the Mavericks were led by sophomore Emma Lopez, who went 1-3 on the day with a triple, a walk and two RBI. Junior Kailee Bautista compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Senior Nicole Hill also contributed for UTA, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mavericks were trailing 1-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. UTA managed to push across two runs in the inning.

The Mean Green then tied the ballgame at two before the Mavericks came back to reclaim their advantage in the eighth inning. The Mavs put up two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of Lopez, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Mavericks. The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as UTA held on for the win.

GAME NOTES

» UT Arlington's highest scoring inning was the eighth, when it pushed two runs across.
» The Mavericks out-hit UNT at an 8-4 clip.
» UT Arlington pitchers limited the Mean Green to just 0-5 with runners in scoring position.
» UT Arlington pitchers faced 31 North Texas hitters in the game, allowing 11 ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out two.
» The Mavericks drew six walks from North Texas pitching.
» Lopez led the Mavericks at the plate, going 1-3 with a triple and two RBI.

The Mavs will look for their third conference series win with a three-game weekend hosting Abilene Christian beginning Friday, Mar. 21 from Allan Saxe Field.
