ARLINGTON, Texas --The UT Arlington Mavericks secured the 4-3 extra-innings win, walking it off with a wild pitch to end the 14-inning thriller against Abilene Christian on Friday, Mar. 21 from Allan Saxe Field.
Freshman Madi McDonnell (3-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for UT Arlington (18-10, 5-2). The right-hander went 12 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on 13 hits, allowing one walk and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Mavericks first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. UTA plated two runs when junior Elizabeth Baylor left the yard with junior Alaina Hampton aboard.
The Wildcats then rallied to score two runs and take a 3-2 lead before the Mavericks got back on the board in the seventh. The Mavs scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Kailee Bautista, which evened the score at 3-3.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the fourteenth, when UTA walked it off when Bautista came across to score.
GAME NOTES
» Bautista racked up four hits on the day for UT Arlington.
» UT Arlington's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed two runs across.
» Five Mavericks had multiple hits in the ballgame.
» UT Arlington pitchers faced 58 Abilene Christian hitters in the game, allowing 12 ground balls and 22 fly balls while striking out five.
» Bautista led the Mavericks at the plate, going 4-7 with a double and an RBI.

The Mavs will be back on the dirt for a doubleheader against the Cats on Saturday, Mar. 22 with game one beginning at 2 p.m.
