ARLINGTON - The UT Arlington softball team secured the conference series win over Abilene Christian on Saturday, Mar. 22 as the Mavericks split their doubleheader, coming away with a 7-0 victory.
GAME 1 | UT Arlington 7, Abilene Christian 0
Senior Emilie Hoelscher (4-4) was dealing as she went the distance for UTAÂ (19-10, 6-2), giving up five hits, walking none and striking out two.
In the batter's box, the Mavericks were led by sophomore Emma Lopez, who went 2-3 on the day with a double and four RBI. Junior Elizabeth Baylor put together a standout performance as well, going 3-4. Senior Nicole Hill also helped out for UTA, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning.
The Mavericks then tacked on runs in the fifth inning when they scored four times. The big hit in that inning was a three-run double off the bat of Lopez.
GAME NOTES
» Hoelscher tossed a five-hit shutout for the Mavericks.
» Baylor had three base knocks in the game for UT Arlington.

Together, the Mavs put up a valiant effort in game two against the Wildcats but ultimately came up short, falling by the score of 4-1.
Freshman Jaycee Knighton (1-1) started and took the loss in the circle for UTAÂ (19-11, 6-3). Sophomore Abi Gutierrez was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going five innings, surrendering two runs, one earned, on two hits, walking two and striking out three.
Offensively, the Mavericks were paced by junior Kailee Bautista, who went 1-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Emma Lopez furnished a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks were trailing 4-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. UTA got on the board thanks to Bautista's RBI double. The Mavericks were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
