ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (8-8) pulled their record back to five hundred after defeating Incarnate Word (6-5) 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center.
 
The Mavericks dropped the doubles point but returned with a vengeance to take all six singles points. 
 
With the win, the Mavs pick up their fourth win in the all-time series versus the Cardinals, moving to 4-1 in the series. The win also puts the Mavs back in the win column, coming into today riding a two-match losing streak but snapped out of it in grand fashion behind strong singles showings.
 
The Cardinals dropped their second straight match and move to 4-2 in the month of March.
 
The Mavs lone doubles victory came via Court 3 behind a Federico Garbero and Daniel Pérez-Caraballo 6-2 win over Christian Cuellar and Marcel Miralles. UIW secured the doubles point behind an exciting match on Court 2 that saw Alexandre Chauvel and Marco Rodriguez defeat Andres Medus and Mattia Ricci 7-5. 
 
UTA turned over a new leaf in singles play with all but Court 1 being decided in straight sets. Pedro Sasso got the Mavs on the board thanks to a 6-3, 6-1 victory on Court 3 over Marcel Miralles to knot the score up at one apiece.
 
Federico Garbero defeated Alexandre 6-1, 6-3 on Court 5 to put the Mavs up 2-1. Yazid Lahjomri put UTA up 3-1 after defeating Christian Cuellar 6-1, 6-2 on Court 6.
 
Andres Medus secured the victory for the Mavs after defeating Alejandro Hernandez 6-4, 6-4 on Court 2. UTA and UIW would go on to play out the remaining two courts.
 
Meethre Barot defeated Emilio Vila in an exciting 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 match on Court 1 while Mattia Ricci defeated Rafael Candelas 7-6, 6-3 on Court 4 to wrap up the afternoon for the Mavs.
 
UTA will be back in action this upcoming Wednesday, March 26, when they travel to Kansas for a showdown with Wichita State. First serve is set for 1 p.m. CT.
