WICHITA, Kan. – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (8-8) return to the open road for a lone road match at Wichita State (8-9) on Wednesday, March 26, at 1 p.m. CT from the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
The Mavericks returned to the win column this past Saturday when they defeated Incarnate Word 6-1 after going 0-2 on a Florida road trip. UTA looks to end the month of March with an even five hundred record for the month as they currently sit at 2-3 in March with Wednesday being the last match of the month.
On the season,
Andres Medus leads the way for the Mavs in singles play, holding a 10-5 dual record. Medus has gone 8-3 on Court 2 while going 2-1 on Court 1 and 0-1 on Court 3.
Mattia Ricci holds solid with a 7-3 dual match record, going 5-2 on Court 4, 2-0 on Court 5 and 0-1 on Court 3.
Pedro Sasso and
Yazid Lahjomri both hold six dual wins apiece this season, with Lahjomri holding firm at 6-4 while Sasso sits at 6-5.
In doubles action, the duo of
Meethre Barot and Sasso have solidified their selves as the top doubles team for the Mavs, holding an impressive 12-3 as a team on the season with a 9-3 record from Court 1 and a 3-0 record from Court 2. The team of Medus and Ricci hold strong with a 10-5 dual record for the season with an 8-2 record from Court 3 while going 2-3 on Court 2.
UTA trails in the all-time series against the Shockers, 8-15 while holding a 3-7 record in Wichita. The Mavs last win in the series came in Wichita, a 4-3 thriller the Mavs won back in March 2023. In their last 10 matchups, the Mavs hold a 3-7 record with two of those wins coming in Wichita.
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
The Shockers enter the match with an 8-9 overall record with a 4-3 record at home this season. The Shockers were riding a three-match win streak that was snapped by UNLV on Monday, March 24. The Shockers are 52-41 in singles as a team and 23-23 in doubles. Ilias Worthington leads the Shockers in singles wins with 11, currently has won three in a row.
NEXT UP
The Mavs return home for a pair of matches next week when they welcome Prairie View A&M on Wednesday, April 2, and Abilene Christian on Thursday, April 3. Both matches are set to start at 11 a.m.
