RIVERSIDE, CA - The UT Arlington softball team split its doubleheader with California Baptist on Friday as the Mavericks will look to take the series on Saturday from John C. Funk Stadium.
GAME 1 | UT Arlington 4, California Baptist 2
Senior Emilie Hoelscher (7-4) got the win for UT Arlington (22-14, 8-5). The southpaw went six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on nine hits, allowing no walks and striking out four. Freshman Jaycee Knighton also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. UT Arlington plated two runs when sophomore Mia McNulty left the yard with junior Dee McClarity aboard.
The Lancers failed to push any runs across before the Mavericks built on their lead in the fifth inning. UT Arlington picked up two runs, including one on a solo homer off the bat of junior Kailee Bautista, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Mavericks. Cal Baptist put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but UT Arlington still held on for the 4-2 win.

Freshman Kynlee Bowlin (1-2) started and took the loss in the circle for UT Arlington (22-15, 8-6).
At the plate, the Mavericks were led by junior Dee McClarity, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Junior Marley Neises came across to score the lone run of the inning for UT Arlington and get them on the board.
The Mavericks lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the sixth trailing 7-1. UT Arlington picked up a run on McClarity's one-out solo home run off of senior Morgan McConnell, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Lancers. The ballgame ended with that sixth inning rally falling short.
