UTA Drops Series to CBU With Close Loss

RIVERSIDE, CA - Junior Dee McClarity recorded two extra base hits, but the UT Arlington Mavericks fell to the California Baptist Lancers 2-1 Saturday.

Sophomore Abi Gutierrez (4-2) started and took the loss in the circle for UT Arlington (22-16, 8-7). Freshman Madi McDonnell was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit.

McClarity's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-2 day, and included a double, a home run, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mavericks were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. McClarity put UT Arlington on the board with a one-out solo home run off senior Morgan McConnell. Cal Baptist then scored one time over the remaining four innings to break the tie and grab the 2-1 win.

GAME NOTES

» UT Arlington's power output was led by McClarity, who had two extra base hits in the ballgame.
» UT Arlington's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed one run across.
» UT Arlington pitchers faced 30 Cal Baptist hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out three.
» McClarity led the Mavericks at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, a home run and an RBI.
 

ON DECK
UTA will be back at home with its series against Grand Canyon beginning on Friday, Apr. 18 from Allan Saxe Field. 

The UTA softball team will honor the late Dr. Allan Saxe on Saturday, April 19 during its conference series against Grand Canyon with a pre-game ceremony at Allan Saxe Field which is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. 

The game between UTA and GCU will begin at 12:05 p.m.

A cherished member of the Arlington community, Saxe passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024, in Arlington. Born on February 11, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Saxe dedicated his life to education, political science, and community service.
