Mavs Slash Four Homers In Victory Over Tarleton, Claim First Conference Series Win

STEPHENVILLE, Texas -- The Mavs put together four home runs and received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Mavericks put 13 runs on the board and knock off the Tarleton State Texans 13-6 Saturday.

Sophomore Nicholas Robb (2-3) got the win for UT Arlington (12-19, ). The right-hander went six innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on six hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mavericks got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. UT Arlington scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run homer from senior Tyce Armstrong.

The Mavericks then held the Texans scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. UT Arlington scored once on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Cade Dodson, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Mavericks.

Tarleton State came back to tie the ballgame at four before UT Arlington reclaimed an 8-4 advantage in the sixth inning. The Mavericks hit two home runs from Airhart and Dodson on back-to-back pitches in the inning on the way to scoring four runs.

UT Arlington held the Texans scoreless before building on their lead in the eighth inning. Senior Parker Airhart crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Mavericks, bringing the score to 9-4 in favor of UT Arlington.

Tarleton State got within 9-5 until the Mavericks scored again in the ninth inning to stretch its lead to 13-5. The UT Arlington offense piled up four runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of senior Tate Bethel. Tarleton State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Mavericks still coasted to the 13-6 win.

» Freshman Austin Phillips compiled three base knocks in the game for UT Arlington.
» Every UT Arlington starter reached base safely in the win.
» UT Arlington's highest scoring inning was the ninth, when it pushed four runs across.
» UT Arlington took a 3-0 lead in the top half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.

The Mavs will play in the series finale, and look to extend its winning streak to five games in the series finale tomorrow, Apr. 13, at 1 p.m.
