UT Arlington Falls To Baylor 9-8 In 10 Innings

ARLINGTON, Texas --The UT Arlington Mavericks fell 9-8 in a 10-inning matchup to the Baylor Bears Tuesday.

Freshman Tyler Zahradnik (1-3) took the loss on the mound for UT Arlington (13-20). The left-hander went two innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing no walks and striking out four. Sophomore Kyle Winkler was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going three innings, surrendering one run on two hits, walking none and striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 3-0, the Mavericks first put runs on the board in the first inning. UT Arlington got an RBI single from sophomore Xander McAfee, scoring senior Tyce Armstrong from second base.

The Mavericks deficit grew to 4-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the second inning. UT Arlington managed to push across two runs in the inning, which tightened the Bears lead to 4-3.

UT Arlington held the Bears off the board before rallying to grab a 7-4 lead in the third. The Mavericks bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of freshman Cade Dodson.

UT Arlington surrendered the lead they built in the third, but got back on the board in the eighth trailing 8-7. Junior Jordan Medellin crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Mavericks, tying the score at 8-8. Baylor then scored one time over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 9-8 win.
