COLLEGE STATION, Texas – UT Arlington's
Dorcas Jepkosgei and
Matro Jepkemboi showed out as the pair took home first and second place on Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational from Watts Cross Country Course.
Freshman Jepkosgei's tremendous winning time of 16:46.0 in the women's 5k marked a new course record for the Aggies' event as fellow teammate Jepkemboi captured a solid time of 17:00.5 - fourth all time - which went on to earn second-place honors.
"Matro and Dorcas are set for a great season," shared head coach John Sauerhage. "Setting a new course record is something to be proud of and we just have to keep the momentum going."
Jepkosgei has had an impressive start to her freshman campaign this season after finishing second at last week's Gerald Richey Invitational which UTA hosted.
Rounding out the Mavericks' top five finishers were sophomore
Emilia Mandl (18:37.3), freshman
Linn Adolfsson (18:38.5) and sophomore
Lauren Baur (18:44.8) which led UTA to a fifth-place finish.
On the men's side, sophomore transfer
Toby Eaton paced the Mavs with an 11th place finish after posting a time of 24:09.3 in the men's 8k. Eaton looks to continue the hot streak after capturing fourth place back at the season opener one week ago.
UTA's
Kebede Kerlin (24:52.1),
Alex Kalmar (24:54.9),
Angel Sanchez (25:00.4) and
Rogelio Aguirre (25:03.6) made up the top five times on the men's squad to tab a fifth-place finish.

The Mavs return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, in Fayetteville for Arkansas' Chile Pepper Festival.
