ARLINGTON, Texas – Dorcas Jepkosgei and
Toby Eaton have been named the Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday.
This will be the second conference honor of the season for the freshman as Jepkosgei captured a tremendous winning time of 16:46.0 in the women's 5k at the Texas A&M Invitational back on Sept. 13 which marked a new course record for the Aggies' event. It also was the first time a UTA Maverick has claimed the top spot in the prestigious event.
The Kenyan native has been a strong force in head coach John Sauerhage's roster this season after tabbing two top 2 finishes in the first two meets of the season.
Transfer Eaton made a strong appearance in College Station two weeks ago, finishing in 11th place finish after posting a time of 24:09.3 in the men's 8k. Back at UTA's season opening Gerald Richey on Sept. 5, Eaton paced the Mavs with a time of 15:07.1 for a fourth-place finish.
The Mavs will return to action this upcoming Saturday, Oct. 4, as they travel to Fayetteville to compete in Arkansas' Chile Pepper Festival.
