ABILENE, TEXAS – UT Arlington women's basketball (6-9, 0-3 WAC) heads to Moody Coliseum on Saturday to take on Abilene Christian (10-5, 1-1 WAC) at 1 p.m. Fans unable to make the trip can watch the game live on ESPN+ or follow along with live stats.
The Lady Mavs have gotten off to a slow start, but with conference play still in its early stages, UT Arlington looks to take a step forward after a close 58-55 loss to Southern Utah. Saturday marks UT Arlington's second true road game of WAC play as the Lady Mavs continue an early stretch of conference contests away from home.
"We've got to continue to improve us – it doesn't matter who we play," head coach Shereka Wright said.
Saturday's contest marks the 21st all-time meeting between the two programs. The teams split their meetings a season ago, with UT Arlington holding an 11-9 edge in the all-time series dating back to 1973. The matchup features two of the WAC's top defensive teams, with UT Arlington's interior rim protection going up against Abilene Christian's scoring.
Abilene Christian is led by junior guard Payton Hull, who averages a WAC-best 17.8 points per game. Junior center Meredith Mayes adds 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest. As a team, the Wildcats rank second in the WAC in scoring offense (76.7 ppg) while also leading the league in scoring defense.
UT Arlington is led by freshman forward Kira Reynolds, the youngest of the Reynolds trio, who averages 11.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game to lead the WAC in blocked shots. Defensively, the Lady Mavs lead the conference in three-point field goal percentage defense and rank second in the WAC in blocked shots.
