Late Rally Comes Up Short as Mavericks Fall to Iowa State, 15-11

GAME 3 | Iowa State 15, UT Arlington 11

ARLINGTON, Texas
-- UTA rallied late but could not overcome an early deficit, falling 15-11 to the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday at Allan Saxe Field.

The Cyclones scored four runs in the opening inning and added runs in each of the next four frames to build a 15-7 lead through six innings. The Mavericks answered in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs and bringing the tying run to the plate before Iowa State closed out the contest.

UT Arlington recorded 11 runs on 11 hits. Junior Peyton Holand led the Mavericks with a three-RBI performance, going 1-for-3 with a home run. Marley Neises went 1-for-2 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a sacrifice fly, while Kelsey Creech finished 2-for-3 with an RBI triple. Cameron Cooper added an RBI, and Valeria Feeney reached base three times, going 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored.

In the circle, Hailey Lynn Sralik, Madi McDonnell and Maddie Furniss combined for nine strikeouts. The trio held Iowa State scoreless over the final two innings, allowing UT Arlington to make a late push. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Iowa State jumped out to an early advantage with four runs in the top of the first and continued to apply pressure throughout the middle innings. The Cyclones added runs in each of the next four frames, extending their lead to 15-7 through six innings. 

UTA answered late in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs to bring the tying run to the plate. The Mavericks' rally was highlighted by timely hits from Marley Neises and Peyton Holland, but Iowa State was able to record the final out to secure the win.
