ARLINGTON, TX – The UTA Mavericks erased an early deficit with a seven-run fourth inning to defeat South Dakota, 8-7, on Saturday afternoon at Allan Saxe Field.
South Dakota struck first with four runs in the second inning, capitalizing on timely hits and Maverick miscues to take a 4-0 lead. The Coyotes added three more in the sixth to reclaim momentum, but UTA's huge fourth inning proved superior.
After getting on the board with a run in the third, the Mavericks exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. UTA capitalized on aggressive base running, timely hitting and key RBI opportunities to flip the game in its favor.
Dee McClarity led the charge at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Cameron Cooper added a two-RBI performance, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate.
Kaylee Schweitzer recorded a double and a scored run, while
Peyton Holland and
Marley Neises each drove in a run. The Mavericks totaled eight runs on five hits with four walks in this afternoon's contest.

Madi McDonnell (3-1) earned the win for the Mavericks, throwing 5.0 innings to secure the 8-7 victory.
