ARLINGTON, TX – UTA finished the second day of the Boerner Invitational with a split against South Dakota, with an 8-7 win in the first game and a 15-7 loss to cap off the night.
In game two, the Mavericks collected six hits and scored seven runs despite South Dakota's early offensive surge.
Dee McClarity provided a big swing for UTA, launching a three-run home run to deep left to cut the deficit in half and brought the Mavericks within three, 6-3. McClarity finished 1-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.
Talia Maldonado paced the offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, adding an RBI and scoring once.
Marley Neises drove in two runs on a 1-for3 day, while
Kaylee Schweitzer scored twice.
Peyton Holland also crossed the plate for UTA.
The Mavericks plated three runs in the third inning and added two more in the fourth. UTA pushed across two runs in the sixth, but South Dakota broke the game open in the top of the sixth, stringing together seven runs on seven hits to pull away with the 15-7 victory.
