Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – UT Arlington earned their first road win Friday afternoon, defeating No. 6 Arkansas, 4–3, at Baum-Walker Stadium. The Mavericks built an early lead, received 8.2 dominant innings from
Caylon Dygert, and withstood a late Razorback rally to secure their second top-10 victory of the season.
UTA struck immediately in the first inning.
Preston Knott opened the game with a double,
Zach Mazoch followed with an RBI double down the right-field line, and
Xander McAfee lifted a sacrifice fly to give the Mavericks a 2–0 lead.
The Mavericks added crucial insurance in the sixth when
Harold Laracuente singled and
Austin Phillips launched a two-run home run to left — his second of the season — extending the lead to 4–0.
UTA finished with nine hits and went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Phillips paced the lineup with a 2-for-3 day and two RBIs, while Mazoch added two hits and an RBI. Knott and Melendez each scored once at the top of the order.
Arkansas mounted its only push in the ninth. After two outs, the Razorbacks capitalized on a fielding error and delivered three runs on two doubles, trimming the deficit to one before the final out was recorded
PITCHING PROFILE
Caylon Dygert was exceptional, working 8.2 innings and allowing just two hits and two runs — both unearned — while striking out 11 and walking two across 130 pitches. He retired 26 of the first 29 hitters he faced and did not allow an earned run.
Hayes Melville entered with two runners on in the ninth and recorded the final out to earn his first save of the season. As a staff, the Mavericks held Arkansas to four hits and 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
UTA turned two double plays defensively and limited Arkansas to just three total runs despite the late pressure.
