ARLINGTON, TX -- The UT Arlington softball team capped off the night with their second win of the day, 11-6, over the Wildcats at Poly Wells Field on Friday evening.
The Mavericks now hold a 12-15 record and a 2-0 record in WAC play.
Kynlee Bowlin (2-1) earned the win in the circle for UTA (12-15), tossing 4.2 innings while allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out one. She worked through early traffic and kept the Mavericks in control long enough for the offense to build its lead.
At the plate, the Mavericks were led by freshman Valeria Feeney, who went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the second. Cameron Cooper scored on a passed ball to open scoring, before Talia Maldonado delivered a two-RBI single to bring in Peyton Holland and Kaitlyn Sailor. Kelsey Creech followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0.
ACU answered in the third with a three-run home run to tie the game at 4-4.
UTA responded in the fourth as Feeney launched a two-run home run to right field. The Mavericks capitalized on an ACU error to extend the lead to 7-4, and Sailor added an RBI single to push it to 8-4.
After ACU cut the deficit to 8-5, the Mavericks broke things open in the fifth. Vanessa Soza doubled before in Creech before Feeney added an RBI triple. Dee McClarity followed with an RBI double to make it 11-5.
ACU added one more in the fifth but UTA held on for the 11-6 win.
GAME NOTES
· Valeria Feeney led the Mavericks offensively, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple, three RBI and two runs scored.
· Kelsey Creech added a strong performance at the plate. Finishing 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
· Dee McClarity recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
· Kaitlyn Sailor contributed two hits, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
· Vanessa Soza scored two runs and drove in one, highlighted by a double.
· The Mavericks totaled 12 hits as a team, including three doubles, one triple and one homer.
· Kynlee Bowlin earned the win, tossing 4.2 innings.
· Madi McDonnell closed out the game, allowing just one hit over 2.1 innings of relief.
