Box Score WACO, Texas -- The UT Arlington softball team fell 8-0 to Baylor on Tuesday evening at Getterman Stadium.
The Mavericks now move to a 13-16 overall record and maintain their 2-1 record in WAC play.
At the plate, UTA was led by freshman
Kaylee Schweitzer, who went 1-for-3 in the loss to the Bears. The Mavericks were limited to four hits on the night, with Schweitzer,
Mia McNulty,
Kelsey Creech and
Talia Maldonado each recording one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game remained scoreless through the first two and a half innings, with both teams just recording one hit apiece.
Baylor broke through in the bottom of the third. Karynton Dawson reached on a fielder's choice bunt, bringing in a run to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Piper delivered an RBI single to left field, scoring Toven to make it 2-0. Kaygan Marshall followed with an RBI single to center, and Leah Cran added another RBI knock to extend the lead to 3-0 after three innings.
In the bottom of the fourth, Brooklyn Carter reached on a Mavericks throwing error, allowing Gigi Lindsey to score and extend Baylor's lead. Toven followed with an RBI single to right field, bringing in Jones to make it 5-0.
Dawson added to the momentum with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Carter to push the lead to 6-0. Later in the inning, Kaygan Marshall doubled through the left side, driving in Toven and stretching the advantage to 7-0.
Kynlee Bowlin entered the game in relief of
Madi McDonnell and effectively held the Bears scoreless into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Maddie Furniss later came in on relief of Bowlin to close out the frame.
Freshman Ella Brown delivered a deep double to right field for an RBI, scoring Tovar and securing an 8-0 run-rule victory.
NEXT UP
The Mavericks return home this weekend for their first conference series at Allan Saxe Field, hosting Tarleton State. UTA opens the series Friday at 5 p.m., before continuing with a Saturday doubleheader scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
