ARLINGTON, TX – The UT Arlington softball team sealed a 7-6 victory over Tarleton State Friday evening at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks now move to a 14-16 overall record and a 3-1 record in WAC play.
At the plate, UTA was led by sophomore
Talia Maldonado, who went 2-for-3 with a game-high two RBIs, while
Dee McClarity added a 2-for-2 performance with an RBI and
Valeria Feeney chipped in with two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The action began in the top of the second as Tarleton State's Wittram delivered an RBI single up the middle to score Bojkovic and take a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Hayden Fox added a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing home Braylin Pannill to extend the Texans' advantage.
UTA responded in the bottom of the second when
Dee McClarity launched a solo home run over the fence to cut the deficit to 2-1, marking her fifth homer of the season.
The Mavericks broke through in the bottom of the fourth.
Peyton Holland laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored
Jordan Smith and
Marley Neises, giving UTA a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning,
Talia Maldonado delivered a two-RBI home run to extend the Mavericks' advantage to 5-2, her third home run of the season.
Tarleton State answered fiercely in the top of the sixth, hitting a three-run home run to pull within one, 5-4, before adding a solo shot in the next play to tie the game at 6-6.
However, UTA regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth as
Kaylee Schweitzer reached on a fielder's choice, driving in
Peyton Holland to make it 7-6.
The Mavericks held strong defensively in the seventh to secure the 7-6 victory.

Tomorrow, the Mavericks continue the series at home against the Texans, with a Saturday doubleheader scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
