ARLINGTON, TX – The UT Arlington softball team secured its second victory in the home conference series over Tarleton State, 7-4, on Saturday afternoon at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks now move to a 15-16 overall record and a 4-1 record in WAC play.
At the plate, UTA was led by junior
Mia McNulty, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tarleton State struck early in the top of the first, capitalizing on a bases-loaded opportunity as Jaelynn Duke launched a grand slam to give the Texans a 4-0 lead.
UTA responded in the bottom half of the inning.
Marley Neises reached on a Tarleton fielding error by the shortstop, allowing
Mia McNulty and
Valeria Feeney to score and cut the deficit to 4-2. Later in the frame,
Peyton Holland drew a walk on a full count with the bases loaded, bringing in
Dee McClarity and trimming the lead to 4-3.
In the bottom of the third,
Talia Maldonado delivered a clutch two-RBI double to right center, scoring Sailor and Holland to give UTA its first lead of the game at 5-4.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Mia McNulty extended the Mavericks' advantage with a solo home run, pushing the lead to 6-4. The long ball marked her ninth of the season.
Peyton Holland used her speed to score an RBI from
Mia McNulty, extending the Mavericks' lead to 7-4.
UTA held off a late push from Tarleton State to secure the 7-4 win.
