ARLINGTON, TX – The UT Arlington softball team secured its second conference series of the season, 2-1, despite falling in game three to Tarleton State, 6-2, on Saturday afternoon at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks now move to a 15-17 overall record and a 4-2 record in WAC play.
UTA was led at the plate by
Marley Neises and
Peyton Holland, who each recorded two hits and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Like in game one of the doubleheader, Tarleton State jumped out early in the second inning, capitalizing on a UTA fielding error to plate three runs and take a 3-0 lead.
TSU extended its advantage in the inning with a two-run home run to right center, pushing the score to 5-0.
UTA responded in the bottom half of the second as
Marley Neises launched a solo home run to right field to get Mavericks on the board, 1-5.
Peyton Holland followed with a home run to left, trimming the deficit to 5-2 as UTA began to build momentum.
In the top of the sixth, TSU's Jaelynn Duke launched a solo home run (her second of the weekend) to extend Texans' lead to 6-2.
The game remained quiet down the stretch as Tarleton State secured the 6-2 win in game three.
NEXT UP
The Mavericks will head west to Orem, Utah, to face Utah Valley in their third conference series of the season. UTA opens with a doubleheader on Friday, April 3 (3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. CT), before closing the weekend with a 1 p.m. matchup on Saturday.
