ARLINGTON, Texas – After multiple rain delays pushed first pitch more than two hours past the scheduled start, UT Arlington waited out the weather and powered past ULM for a 9–5 victory Saturday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Originally slated for a 6 p.m. start, the game did not begin until 8:30 p.m
., but the Mavericks' offense showed no signs of slowing down despite the long wait. UT Arlington finished the night with 16 hits, scoring in six different innings to secure the win.
ULM struck first with two runs in the opening inning, but the Mavericks quickly responded. UT Arlington answered in the bottom half of the first to cut the deficit in half before taking control in the second inning with a three-run frame.
The highlight came when
Caylon Dygert launched a deep fly ball to center field that created a brief pause in the action. The ULM center fielder initially signaled that the ball had become lodged under the outfield wall, prompting the umpire to run out and inspect the play. After checking the wall, the umpire ruled a home run, giving UT Arlington a 4–2 advantage.
The Mavericks continued to build momentum as the game moved into the middle innings. UT Arlington added two runs in the fourth inning, followed by single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh, steadily increasing the lead while keeping pressure on the ULM pitching staff.
ULM managed to chip away with runs in the middle innings and added another in the eighth, but the Mavericks pitching staff prevented any late comeback attempts to secure the 9–5 win.

Xavier Melendez, who recorded four hits and three RBIs in the contest. Dygert finished with two hits
, two RBIs and two runs scored, highlighted by the go-ahead home run in the second inning. The Mavericks also received multi-hit performances from several hitters as they piled up 16 total hits on the night.
